Conserving our living White Lion heritage after 2010

Our eco-educational program proved to be a roaring success when we saw the unprecedented enthusiasm among local youth on our regional Heritage Day. 18 local primary schools from the community of the Oaks in collaboration with Maruleng Municipality came together to celebrate the White Lion heritage.

Following a series of educational talks on White Lion conservation from us in the weeks leading up to the event, the celebrations kicked off with a troupe of drum majorettes from the Diphuti Primary School. Four Primary schools from Oaks and Finale were also invited to deliver White Lion celebratory performances. A second heritage celebration was also given with the Acomhoek community who had 14 schools participate on the day.

Over 300 visitors from the community along with local councillors, municipal representatives and invited guests from the Municipality attended the celebration.

Mr Mafogo, the Maruleng Mayor said at the event, "It is this ethos of responsible and sustainable conservation of our natural resources that we as Maruleng wish to show-case to fellow South Africans on this Heritage Day, and throughout the 2010 celebrations."

"I'm very proud to be supporting the Global White Lion Protection Trust. There is nothing more important for an animal than being in its natural habitat and the charity does an unbelievable job ensuring that this is possible for the white lions.
